Entries wanted for Enterprising Britain award

Entries wanted for Enterprising Britain award

The search has started to find the most enterprising town in the south east.

With just a month to go towns are be urged to come forward and be part of the Enterprising Britain competition 2008 which returns for its fourth year.

The award is aimed at areas in the south east that have managed to transform social and economic fortunes for their community, and will reward the most enterprising of these.

The national finals will await the regional winner who will then go forward to face off against other entrants in the Enterprising Britain 2008. The winner will receive automatic nomination as the UK representative to the European Enterprise Awards and get to use the Enterprising Britain 2008 national logo. All this as well as the recognition and profile with government, business and policy makers.

Launched by Shriti Vadera, Minister for Business Competitiveness, the award is run by Make Your Mark on behalf of the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), and is also in partnership with SEEDA (South East of England Development Agency).

All Berkshire entries must be received by 18 April with the winner being sent to represent the region. The panel of judges (who last year included Dragon’s Den’s Peter Jones and Glassesdirect.co.uk founder James Murray Wells) will then decide who will take the crown of national Enterprising Britain 2008.

Entry for the competition is free and is open to all towns, cities, parishes or neighbourhoods that are able to demonstrate a transformed community through enterprise in the last two years. This can range from a town that has managed to increase employment through to innovative enterprise strategies that have overcome challenges.

More information regarding entry criteria for Enterprising Britain 2008 can be found at www.enterprisingbritain.org.uk or by emailing Helen Cook at SEEDA on helencook@seeda.co.uk
