£50,000 raised in Donations

£50,000 raised in Donations at the Berkshire Community Foundation Reception in the House of Commons

The Berkshire Community Foundation recently invited Berkshire business leaders and prominent individuals to a House of Commons reception on the 26th April. The focus was to raise awareness of community needs in Berkshire and to highlight the plight of its small voluntary groups, many of whom could face closure due to lack of funding.

The event was supported by business contributions from Panasonic, Rathbones and Coutts and hosted by Richard Benyon MP and the Lord Lieutenant Philip Wroughton. The aim was to introduce the Foundation’s cause to those who can really make a difference.

Over 150 people attended the reception and many made significant pledges to Foundation’s admirable community cause, with one generous donor giving £50,000.

The Foundations fundamental concept is to build a permanent source of funding for its small voluntary groups, from which the interest is used to make grants. Distinguished long-term supporter, John Nike, described the Community Foundation as “the most effective method of delivering support to local charities.”

Lord Lieutenant supported these sentiments, adding: “The funds received will be focused effectively on local needs and improving the local community, which is surely one of the legacies, as investors and Berkshire residents, we would all like to leave our children.”

Robin Draper, CEO of BCF was delighted with the attendance, stating: “It gives me enormous pleasure to have so many of the counties most prominent figures attending. This level of business and individual support, coupled with your generous donations, will enable a lasting legacy for the disadvantaged of Berkshire.”

Newbury MP, Richard Benyon, and a former Foundation trustee, summed up the significance of the event, adding: “The Foundation is reliant on individuals who have the motivation and the means to make a difference for the better of the locality they are loyal to, both now and long into the future.”
