Launch of RACT – Reading Area Charities Together
The launch of Reading Area Charities Together will mark the first time that a group of Reading based charities serving the local community have pooled their resources to raise funds.
The official launch of Reading Area Charities Together will take place on Thursday, 25 January from 12noon at the Prudential Ibis Club, Scours Lane, Tilehurst.
RACT has invited the Right Worshipful Mayor of Reading, Councillor Bet Tickner, as well as Councillor Brian Bedwell - Chair of West Berkshire Council to help launch this new venture. Also present will be Councillor Graeme Hoskins from Reading Borough Council and Councillor Beth Rowland of Wokingham District Council, to help promote its raising work and success across the Greater Reading area.
Reading Area Charities Together (RACT) is the name of a consortium of nine Reading based charities who have come together to create a new way of giving. The nine organisations that make up RACT comprise The Berkshire Community Foundation, The Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust, Care Cultural Integration, the Reading YMCA, Parents And Children Together, the Reading Single Homeless Project, Home-Start Reading, REAP Resettlement Agency and ReadiBus. Chair of the RACT Management Committee is Ann Piper from Prudential.
“Prudential are delighted to support such a worthwhile project,” comments Ann Piper. “The RACT consortium has worked hard over the last year, and following our launch we hope to generate a long-term income stream for the nine charities involved.
“RACT gives the people living and working in Reading an opportunity to support a range of local charities, all doing excellent work in the area, by choosing to donate to this new consortium of charities. Regular donations can be made through your employer’s payroll giving facility, or if you do not have access to a payroll giving scheme you can make regular donations via gift aid.
A wide range of local employers will be invited to attend the Launch Event, and the RACT committee aim to encourage employers to support the new consortium by allowing employees to use their payroll giving scheme to support RACT.
RACT charities are already helping people daily - when life goes wrong they provide support with housing, families, transport and safety, young people and older people – donations will help them achieve even more!
Whether you want to give a little every month or make a more generous one-off donation. Those attending the Launch will also be able to find out more about the work of each of the charities participating in RACT, as each organisation will be represented at the event.
The RACT launch event is hosted by the Prudential Ibis Club. RACT is supported by Connect Reading and Prudential.
