Friday 13th October WAS a Lucky Day for Local Kids!

Bring a £ to Work gave companies and organisations a unique opportunity to involve their employees in helping local children through “Give a Child a Chance”!

Berkshire Community Foundation (BCF), with Time 106.6Fm, Slough Business Community Partnership (SBCP) and many companies around the area organised the event to raise money for local children. By the end of the day – still with some monies to be counted – they proudly announced the total as reaching £14,000!

The biggest contributors were Masterfoods who held events throughout the week and really got the employees involved. They were helped and “partnered” by the Slough company, Sara Lee, whose staff also made a major contribution (matched by the company itself). Each of these firms gave the other some sample products to sell in their canteen which was very popular with both.

Schools around the area also took park, and collections were made throughout the day in Slough station and the shopping area.

One of the biggest cash collections was made at Terminal 5 amongst the contractors and staff working on the new building. Ten buckets loads of cash were collected – a heavy job – and this came to over £2,700.

The collectors were supported particularly by the Mayor of Slough, Councillor David MacIsaac, who went around all the council offices, and local MP Fiona Mactaggart who visited a number of companies and collection points.

Gordon Storey, a trustee with the Berkshire Community Foundation (which manages Give a Child a Chance) said “Thanks to everyone who took part – the monies raised will be spent as grants to local organisations and groups working with children around the area. ”Give a Child a Chance” is looking to continue and expand locally. We always have more applications from projects for children than funds available to help, so this is a really magnificent effort. Don’t forget you can still make a donation by calling 0845 003 1387”.
