Kevin Marsdon Speakers Trophy

Apprentice Programme Kevin Marsdon Speakers Trophy

When we decided to hold the Business in Berkshire networking event on St George’s Day and invite a number of eloquent speakers , it made sense to finish the day off with a light hearted speaking competition.

Some of you will have been lucky enough to meet a good friend of Business in Berkshire, Kevin Marsdon. He was our main journalist for six months when we first launched the content management system three years ago.

He was a gentle, wise man with a great sense of humour. He enjoyed being a bit of a thespian and not just behind closed doors, he took part in many productions. He was involved in the music business and when I first met him he’d just finished helping a friend out, managing his training business. Within a few weeks we were working on our “Smile and Dial” training course. Combining email marketing and telemarketing for the best results!

Sadly Kevin passed away earlier this year and one of the symptoms of illness meant he lost the ability to speak. When I last saw him, a couple of weeks before he moved on, he was still smiling and lighting up the room.

It was natural that we name this competition in honour of Kevin and ask all willing participants to talk for 2 minutes, on a topic chosen on the day. The winner will be chosen by the baying crowd and managed by Mary Flavelle and her magic bell!

Remember, you’ve got to be in it to win it!!

William Shakespeare
April 26th, 1564, is generally thought to be Shakespeare’s birthday. The first of 8 children, he attended Stratford grammar school but did not have an extensive education. Although famous for his plays, it was his poetry that first brought him recognition.     more
