Make more multi-media marketing messages!
Another way to further your on-line marketing is via audio and video. This is not difficult to do, but it does need to be done well. There is nothing worse than inexpensively produced multi-media on your website, just shoved on because it is the latest thing and the bloke next door has done it too!
But be aware of how you use it. When an audio message comes on immediately you visit the page can be extremely annoying, especially if you didn’t want or expect it. Alternatively it can have the opposite effect and become reduced to just background noise, especially if the voice is a monotone. With one particular website I only realised that there had been an audio playing once it had finished!
The best way to use audio is for a well researched function, and it must be permission activated. Recordings of teleseminars and a podcast of an interview or radio show you did can be interesting and very effective in marketing yourself, especially if it can be accompanied with a written version in pdf format. And of course these can be obtained through e-commerce as well.
And then there are videos on websites. Americans use them to introduce their products or services through testimonials from satisfied users, and some websites have cascades of these videos down the page! Video instructions are very useful, especially if the programme or method is complicated, and having a visual explanation to show a concept or idea can be very effective in getting the point across.
But don’t be tempted to skimp on production costs. There is nothing more dreadful than a video with poor editing, bad lighting and a monotonous dialogue from a dire script. In fact, you don’t need a script at all. I recently had a video done for my website by Oceanwake Services, and Gillian Gee uses her experience in television and interviewing techniques to draw out the ‘best bits’ to compile a short video for me. She concentrated on capturing my enthusiasm for my business, which says a lot more than just words. It is not long, so why not take a look, and get back to me with your thoughts!
