The Heaven Sent Ball
Fiona & John Devine pictured with patron Michael Parkinson & his wife Mary
As the guests were seated for dinner, the spectacular glamour of the evening became fully evident in the heavenly theme of white and silver. Guests wined and dined until midnight, happy in the knowledge that their presence at the ball was helping to fund this very worthy cause.
A highlight of the evening was the charity auction run by Thomas Plant (as seen on BBC Flog it & Bargain Hunt) and raffle which raised in excess of £20,000. Amongst the many prizes which were donated by a range of local businesses and friends were a helicopter flight and day at Silverstone, 10 days in a villa in Florida, a riverboat cruise, flights to New York, and tickets to the Michael Parkinson Show.
A poem, in tribute to Alexander was written and read by his older cousin Sam Tonkinson, reminding guests of Alexander’s amazing courage and many qualities.
Our sincere thanks to the Oakley Court Hotel who have been fantastic, Penguin Entertainment who have also been brilliant, Burgess Hire and of course all our guests, sponsors and supporters.
The ADCCT Heaven Sent Ball got off to a heavenly start with its inaugural ball held at the Oakley Court Hotel on Friday 18th May.
Michael Parkinson (journalist and broadcaster) a patron to the trust, attended the ball with his wife Mary and congratulated the trust on its fund raising efforts so far. Michael Parkinson said, "It’s hard to believe that an affluent area like Berkshire does not have a hospice facility for children, and I am happy to be associated with this organisation".
The evening’s entertainment began with a champagne reception, where guests gathered and mingled to the strains of Summer Time Jazz.
