Second annual ADCCT Cabaret fundraiser hosted by Michael Parkinson
Sir Michael Parkinson led a glittering night of fundraising and cabaret in aid of ADCCT on 19th September 2008. The second annual Cabaret evening was a resounding success, raising £46,000 for the Alexander Devine Children's Cancer Trust. Parkinson has been a patron of the Berkshire charity for two years and is hugely supportive of the trust, lending his time and influence to boost both the charity's funds and its profile. The much-loved broadcaster, who lives in Bray, keenly supports local charities and is drawn to causes which support children. He was "astounded" to hear that there is currently no children's hospice in the county of Berkshire and has pledged his support as a patron in order to help ADCCT reach its aim of building a home-from-home hospice. The Sir Michael Parkinson Cabaret was held against the stunning location of Wentworth, who are great supporters of ADCCT. 200 guests in lounge-suits and cocktail dresses feasted on a four-course meal which ended with a spectacular dessert of iced pralines presented in dry ice. Entertainment came in the form of a Cabaret starring some of Parkinson's friends, including Rolf Harris, Penny Lynch, Laurie Holloway and Bobby Davro, who kept guests laughing until the end of the evening. There was also a silent auction and raffle, with all proceeds going to ADCCT. Parkinson played host for the entire evening. ADCCT's Fiona Devine said, "We are very grateful to him: he does loads for us, and is always so kind and supportive."
