Stars raise money for ADCCT

Rolf Harris pictured with ADCCT patron Michael Parkinson

The entertainment was kicked off by a solo from Mr Frank McKay, followed by Laurie Holloway who demonstrated his piano skills which have seen him perform with the greatest stars. Kenny Lynch performed jazz favourites in his own spectacular way followed by Rolf Harris who sang, joked and played his didgeridoo, receiving a well deserved standing ovation. The spectacular cabaret was rounded off with non-stop laughter and another standing ovation from guests as comedian Mr Bobby Davro closed the proceedings.

The evening raised a wonderful £70,000 for Alexander’s Trust.

Mr Michael Parkinson, journalist and broadcaster, opened the evening by welcoming his guests and gave an explanation as to the purpose of the evening to support his charity ADCCT. He also thanked the events sponsor Mr Frank McKay from Brakes and introduced the cabaret acts Laurie Holloway, Kenny Lynch, Rolf Harris, and Bobby Davro.

Michael then asked Fiona Devine to join him on stage for a live interview in front of some 200 guests, and proceeded to ask Fiona questions about Alexander’s Trust and the reasons why she and her husband John founded ADCCT. Guests were amazed to learn that there is no Children’s Hospice in Berkshire.

The evening continued with a delicious three course meal followed by an auction with lots including an original signed painting by Chris Rea, tickets to the Michael Parkinson Experience, Manchester United hospitality box, Golf for four at Wentworth and many more. A silent auction also ran throughout the evening including prizes such as dinner at the Ivy, a signed Pele football, signed cricket bat by Freddie Flintoff and many other fantastic lots.

Special thanks to: Mr Michael Parkinson, Mr Frank McKay, Mr Nick Parkinson, Mr Jamie Sears and all those who sponsored the event.
