Throughout the industry different companies are legally bound to comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, and all its Statutory Provisions along with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). New Regulations and Codes of Practice are impacting every company throughout the UK. The HSE also have a dedicated webpages Health and safety for disabled people and their employers that can assist employers and service providers in making a difference.
Access to Work (AtW) is available to help overcome the problems resulting from disability. It offers practical advice and help in a flexible way that can be tailored to suit the needs of an individual in a particular job. AtW does not replace the normal responsibilities of the employer to implement Health and Safety regulations or replace the responsibilities required by the Disability Discrimination Act.
