Communications and Media Business in Berkshire

Good morning <Name>
Jon Davey
Welcome to our first newsletter in our revised format for 2007. Each day's newsletter will have it's own header so you can distinguish between the content.

One of the formatting rules for email newsletters is that they should contain at least 30% text. We prefer a 50/50 approach as it's easier on the grey matter and can be appraised easily with a metaphoric glance!

So, as well as looking sharper, the way this email is constructed, with less code, means it is more attractive to the ISP "bouncers" it has to go past on its way to your email box. That's the theory. We need you to keep an eye on things and let us know if our news is not getting through.

We will start with an introduction from yours truly. To the right we have the short cut links to today's stories. Then three promotional spots in a row. The left spot features this month's focus. Each month we'll have a different focus. January is charity, February innovation and March will focus on networking. The second spot will be taken by a sponsor, and the third will be a call to action for next month's focus.

Enjoy today's media & communications email!

Good Telemarketing Works
RKRM
Are you selling to other businesses? Do you need a constant stream of sales leads? Then telemarketing might be the answer for you. Five times the response of direct mail and email shots Telemarketing is expensive on a cost per contact basis because of the labour costs involved. However, money is a relative commodity, isn't it? Telemarketing is expensive when compared to direct mail, for example, yet it is also extraordinarily effective.

This is because it is a live medium, where objections can be dealt with, appointments made and decisions reached - just as in a face-to-face selling situation. But this is achieved without the time involved in travelling, training and experience which is required to become an effective salesperson. This may explain why it can typically generate five times the sales/results produced by a direct mail shot.

Companies Fail to Keep Tabs on Direct Mail
Sales and Marketing
Over half of companies are unaware of the volume of direct mail they send to clients and consumers, research has shown.

A global investigation commissioned by Experian subsidiary QAS has revealed that over 54 per cent of companies do not keep a track of volume, while 88 per cent do not understand the financial implications of returned mail.

Group managing director Harry Meikle warned that companies were losing money as a result of poor data management.

The 10 Commandments of Effective Marketing
Max Marketing
So what is marketing all about? Marketing is everything you do to promote yourself and your business. From the way your team dress to the colour of your shop or even what you put on the office walls.

Without an aggressive marketing campaign for your website, it is just one of EIGHT BILLION listed on the internet. Without an aggressive marketing effort, your shop, or restaurant, had better have a location next to Tesco’s and hope to catch their overflow.
How do you stand out from the crowd?
There are ten golden rules (Commandments!) for your marketing efforts. Keep these in mind and you are well on your way to creating an effective marketing machine. Remember there is only one way to score the effectiveness of your marketing efforts – SALES!

I have put myself forward to help Thames Hospicecare with their Sunflower Slimathon and am looking to raise at least £1,000 personally. A few people have stepped forward and donated £20 but I want to speed up the process.
