Business planning - How companies achieve business plans

In spite of what we read in the papers not all businesses are suffering from a major downturn. Some are fortunate because of the specific industry segment they are in but others are just quietly doing well, irrespective of how badly many are doing in their industry segment. Very little of this is down to pure luck. It's usually due to understanding what their customers want and implementing successful marketing plans to give it to them.

We all remember that the 1980's mantra was 'greed is good'. Now it is green rather than greed that is in fashion. At WVL we have always taken a balanced view - of course the environment is important, but so is your bottom line. If going green is going to cost you money, then that is a powerful argument for leaving things as they are.

Good morning <07 Name>

I have just spent the last two days looking at all the websites we have created for clients and creating a single spread sheet with relevant information for ongoing analysis.

It's been something that has been bugging me for some time. I'm not mad keen on admin, preferring to knock on doors and talk to people, but sometimes you just have to stop what you are doing and look at what's going on.

It makes for interesting reading. We have a total of 495 active sites that we have created for business people since we began our binb cms back in 2002. We then have another 200 or so of our own but these we will analyse separately later.

What is great to see is that those sites we are pushing out under their own domain names, with a little tlc from me and my team are certainly benefiting from our strategic product levitation. And we only launched our first micro site in September '07, www.cooperlease.co.uk which had over 1000 visitors last month and 8000 since its launch.

Promotional micro sites account for 10% of our account base and generated 54% of the unique visitors. The average promotional micro site had 477 visitors while the average standard, diy account had an average of 46. That's a tenfold increase in traffic for our promotional micro sites which have added strategic product levitation!

Don't you just love it when a plan comes off...

First job for you today is to complete Malcolm's survey and the next job is to go and earn yourself £1200 so you can come and commission us to build a Promotional Micro Site for one of your products or services. We'd like to get you flying high on the search engines and your phone ringing from those who are interested in what you have to offer.

Just to confirm our results, check out Richard's testimonial for us right here.

Is my page indexed by Google

On Friday 25th July 2008 while doing some research for a client I came across information relating to knoll, a news aggregation site that had been launched by Google on the Wednesday before.

I read with interest how this was Google's answer to Wikipedia, logic tells you that if Google are looking to break into left hand page listings then this would be a way to go. Then when you see the domain for this site actually sits inside Google, http://knol.google.com it's apparent that since it is part of the most popular site in the world then it's going to gather strength from this and content will fly.

Calling all Thames Valley exporters

Regional companies who export successfully around the world are being urged to go for glory in this year's Thames Valley Business Awards.

It's the first time that the prestigious award scheme, now in its fourteenth year, has had a dedicated International Trade Award category and, with the global marketplace providing new opportunities, it's a chance for local businesses to shine.

The category is being sponsored by Windsor-based foreign exchange specialist HiFX, who said: "We see this region as a hot bed for companies trading globally, the lifeblood of our economy, and we want to acknowledge those that rise above the challenges of cross border trading."

Political Skills for Business Leaders

Organisational politics is a factor that, probably more than any other we can identify, undermines organisational effectiveness and profitability. Given these negative effects, it would be good to think that we can and should rise above such pettiness or simply walk away. In reality, however, to ignore, or be insufficiently proficient in and sensitive to organisational politics also means turning our back on the career progression and the influence that our capabilities merit. It may be ethical, but it is also naïve.

Tell us about your family days out this summer

On Sunday we went to Hong Kong family day at Ascot racecourse. Pitched as a great family day out, we'd been a few years back, when it was the "good old Ascot" and figured the sun was shining, the sky was blue, there wasn't a cloud to spoil the view...

The kids invited a friend each and off we went to Hong Kong Day with anticipation of the fun fair, people wandering around in traditional costumes, dragons and all things Hong Kong Style to make for a great family day out.

Client Testimonials

Let your clients tell the world how great you are!

LiaiseOnline being in the online marketing space bought the domain names www.clienttestimonials.co.uk and www.customertestimonials.co.uk a few years back with the aim of creating a repository for their customer testimonials. This was created and testimonials are added occasionally to the customertestimonials.co.uk space, the frequency of which will be increasing as we remember to go back and ask our happy customers for some feedback!
