| Welcome to
Business in Berkshire |
|
| Good Morning
|
|
Friday, POETS day for those in sales. A
time to ponder one's navel and consider your options. Should you spend the
weekend writing up that report or should you spend it relaxing in the
rain forests?
Might I suggest that you do something
completely different. This will clear you head and enable you to write that
report in 20 minutes on Monday morning with clarity. I suggest you buy some
top quality snow gear from Mini Moonsailors and prepare for
snow. It tried again this morning. How great was it to have some proper snow,
not seen that in 10 years down south! Did you make a snow ball... if not, why
not?
Alternatively you can wander off into a
virtual world. It's amazing how these worlds are taking
off. People buy tower blocks and rent them to other business people...
virtually... and these sites are making proper money. On the
online gaming side of things, they are enjoying the
adverts, makes it more real! I guess it's great to have the MD of Adcorp pinned
down by your Apache helicopter and shoot his bum off!
Business in Berkshire is looking for
those online gamers amongst you to step forward and join in our online gaming
world. Connect with us today. onlinegaming@businessinberkshire.co.uk.
We're also pulling a team together for the
pancake race. If you want to join in, say count me in,
pancakes@businessinberkshire.co.uk . It's in aid of Thames Hospicecare, for
which you may recall I am losing a few pounds in the
sunflower slimathon. Currently only 4 people have stepped
up to sponsor so I have decided to charge for appointments. If people want to
come and see me, it will cost £20. You pay online via the
justgiving link, you can promote your business as Hazel has
done, I asked her to add her url so that others can follow. This also goes for
those looking for me to do them a favour, dig deep and pay your way.
Ray has joined in, he's doing a charity
gig of his own, riding up
the pyramids in Egypt... he's off to find his mummy!! He
needs some parental advice, concerned for his daughter and the younger
generation being influenced by
"no marks" on TV shows. I reckon they should bring back
national service, then they'd appreciate life. I reflect sometimes and wish
that I'd done national service, but then I probably wouldn't be able to help
out with the slimathon now, I'd be too skinny!
That's enough from me for today... I'll
just finish off by saying that once you've got your sponsors in place for your
virtual world, you then need to
get your logo embroidered onto your shirt and there's only
one man for that job, Mr Quinn.
Enjoy the weekend! |

A Second Life in a Virtual
World Back in the early 1990s, author Neal Stephenson coined the
term metaverse for his sci-fi novel Snow Crash. It represented
Stephensons vision of how a virtual reality-based Internet might evolve
in early 21st century. In the book, inhabitants of a virtual world can create
an online persona and live out their fantasies in a virtual environment.
Todays new breed of virtual world websites have brought this
concept to life. |

 TGRF boss predicts Jade Goody
fiasco in August 06 TGRF boss Ray Fensome writes a regular
column for Lightload Lifestyle magazine and in the August 2006 issue warned of
the danger of making stars of un-educated, un-talented people like Jade
Goody.
Ray wrote at the time "The girl has been made a celebrity and
I'm not blaming her for taking advantage of the situation, but to put somebody
who in essence is famous for being illiterate in all our magazines and
newspapers is outrageous. This is sending out all the wrong messages to our
children" He then goes on to say "It is up to magazine editors and TV producers
etc. to stop using these people and focus on talented and intelligent kids" If
only they had listened!!!. |

Bigger and Batter - Windsor and
Eton Pancake Challenge 2007 It's time to flex those wrists and
whizz up eggsactly the right combination of flipping skills and fancy footwork
- and take to the streets of Windsor and Eton for "second helpings" in the wake
of last year's successful pancake challenge.
The traditional race to
the finish promises to be even bigger and batter this year hoping
to at least treble last year's tally of 12 teams taking part in the age-old
Shrove Tuesday activity.
The Windsor and Eton Town Partnership is this
week once again tossing down the seasonal challenge to local businesses and
organisations to demonstrate their flour power and beat their rivals to the
coveted place on the winners rostrum on Tuesday February 20th. All proceeds
from the race will go towards Thames HospiceCare and the Windsor and Eton
Christmas Lights Appeal. |

 Make Time for Breakfast
This week (21st-27th) is Farmhouse Breakfast Week 2007
part of a campaign (now in its 8th year) to encourage people to get active and
healthy. As youd expect, the message is very much focused on making time
for breakfast and also serves to highlight the range and quality of regional
breakfast foods available across the country.
A survey carried out by
the organisers the Home-Grown Cereals Authority asked respondents
to list the things that typically got their days off to a bad start. The top
response, according to the survey, was lack of sleep with more than
half the people questioned blaming sleep problems for putting them into a bad
mood in the morning. |

 Survey to Improve Prospects for
Berkshire Youths Businesses in Berkshire could be suffering as a
result of poor public transport in rural areas.
Young people in a
number of West Berkshire villages have been asked to give details on the ways
in which travel difficulties are affecting their ability to find work and
training opportunities, according to icBerkshire.
Jon Cole, business
manager at the Community Council of Berkshire, commented: "We hear many reports
of the travel difficulties experienced by young people living in rural
Berkshire, but we do not know exactly how big the problem is. |

32% More Women Read Direct Mail
than Email Marketing Eighty-five per cent of 25 to 44-year-old
women read printed direct mail marketing information, compared to just 53 per
cent of women who read email marketing communications, a survey has
shown.
The newly-published Customer Focus Direct Mail study by Vertis
Communications suggests that marketers would be wise not to abandon print
campaigns and are likely to do particularly well if they combine the two
methods. |
