Combat Stress - The Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society
It may come as a surprise to some people who believe that we have been at peace since the end of WWII, that our armed forces have been involved in conflicts in Malaya, Korea, Brunei, Borneo, Suez, Cyprus, Aden, Indonesia, the Falklands, the Gulf (ongoing), Balkans, Cambodia, Sierra Leone, Northern Ireland (30 year campaign) and Afghanistan (ongoing).
Each of these conflicts, without exception, has resulted in psychiatric casualties. For many who are affected, the problems may take years, perhaps decades to surface.
