Yesterday an opportunity to enjoy ladies day came our way and we were initially elated. The thought of spending a day at the races, surrounded by posh hats and champagne with the sun warming the cockles was very appealing. In my head I could hear “...and the winner, at 150-1 is Dashing Jon”, and me with a mere £100 on the nose, in a winning double with 33-1 Princess Ali, ensuring that the mortgage gets paid off, that summer home in a wood near a beach is in the bag and there’s a tidy sum left over to stick in pension fund. Marvellous!
Woke up and it’s all a dream. Charlie’s Holy Communion on Saturday, Ali’s sister & kids are flying in from Australia for 3 weeks on Monday. After a day of revelry for us mere mortals, apparently Friday & probably Saturday will be needed for recovery as we are now 40+ and that’s the rule of life. The elasticity of our brains gets less as time on the planet gets longer and therefore allowing it to swim in alcohol for 24 hours and then recover by the next morning only works between 18 – 30 if you’re lucky. After that you really need to allow 24 – 72 hours to ensure you are back to your peak self.
At times this can be technically known as “a bastard!” but for those of us who like married life and a calm environment we do find it best to listen to those wiser than ourselves for best results!
