Top Brand expert recommends experimenting with online media

Top Brand expert recommends experimenting with online mediaToday, whatever the size of your business, you need to be, at the very least, experimenting with online media. The way the platforms work is changing constantly, so the only way to get a feel for how to “dance” is to pick a platform and join in. Once at the party you can then make decisions on what works for you and what to try next.

In Michael Nutely’s article in New Media Age, he quotes Emma Jenkins, P&G’s head of digital marketing talking about social media and the speed of change. “She talked about the way Facebook has gone from being the hottest thing on the planet to being slagged off in the musical viral for its proliferation of applications in little more than a year”.

Managing Your Google Alerts

Managing Your Google AlertsGoogle alerts provide you with direct news feeds in real time, as they are indexed. This means that if your competitors' PR company have published news on quality, news aggregation websites, then this will be picked up by humans at Google, who will then filter that news into their Google Alert system.

Anyone can sign up for alerts, go try it www.google.com/alerts . You choose the things you are interested in. So if you are a Graphic Designer based in Windsor, you’d filter for designers, for “graphic design”, for Windsor, and this will then keep you tuned in as articles are published or, probably easier to manage, on a daily basis.

Berkshire Small Businesses asked to Talk Rubbish!

Berkshire Small Businesses asked to Talk Rubbish!SURVEY LAUNCHED TO MAKE SURE MORE THAN 10,000 BUSINESSES AREN’T RUBBISH!

Companies across central Berkshire are this month being urged to talk a load of rubbish as part of a survey to investigate business waste and recycling practices.

Businesses in the Wokingham Borough, Bracknell and Reading are being invited to log their refuse and recycling habits on to a confidential database at www.re3.org.uk , so a full picture of how companies in the area manage their waste can be built.

Good morning <07 Name>

A new strategy unfolded at the weekend. No longer is it just about search engine optimisation for the robots but there now is a greater need to talk to real human beings as the dynamics of the web take a shift.

Go sign yourself up for Google Alerts and see how that helps you keep an eye on what the competition are up to. Also use it to see what is  going on around you. Then consider how you can get your news out via Google Alerts. You can if you are part of Business in Berkshire!

Are you part of Business in Berkshire? I don’t mean do you get the newsletter. Do you have your own micro site? Have you invested to join in or have you simply enjoyed the view? Might we suggest that you seriously consider joining our merry band of Business in Berkshire Micro Site owners. The home page of our site gives you a breakdown of what you get for your money. And better value for money you will find nowhere!

Most of the online marketers I know could be charging you £100 a month for what we charge just £99 a year. How do I know that ? Because I’ve seen the look in their eyes, they think we must be mad and we probably are.

I was trained in sales by traditional sales people who were not just out for a fast buck but wanted to ensure the customer was happy so they would come back again. To this end they offered free advice when asked a question, they didn’t start the clock running.

Times are getting tougher and so you have to be out there, on the marketing wind, to be seen and heard. The best way to achieve that is via the Internet and by adding regular content to some web space that is simple to manage. All these new fangled sites with a hundred bells and whistles are way too complicated for the average mortal to operate. We have a very simple system, you only need to add 250 words and a picture each month and you could rule your world!

Don’t take my word for it. Did you read Richard’s testimonial that talked about us getting him 150 leads this year? How many leads have you had this year? Of that 150, one could be £1,000,000 and that’s the mortgage sorted for a few years while we get this sodding crunch out of the way.

Join the party, get yourself a BinB micro site and stop procrastinating. Each day you delay, the further away those leads slide as someone else makes an investment in marketing and starts cherry picking!

Simply pay £99 or £199 online and we’ll get you up and running. We can upgrade later as you feel the value in your pocket!

Green business cars

Green business carsIt's crucial that employers offer green options in their business fleet. Windsor Vehicle Leasing look at the most environmentally-friendly business cars on the market so that you can boost the green credentials of your fleet.

There are a number of mid-sized models available which emit under 135g of CO2 per km, including the Peugeot 308 and some Audi A3 hatchbacks: the TDI 105 is a great example. The Toyota Prius, one of the larger green cars on the market, emits just 104g CO2 per km thanks to its hybrid technology combining an electric motor and a petrol engine. The Volkswagen Bluemotion range, including the Passat, also makes the most of fuel-efficient technology, resulting in emissions of 137g of CO2 per km.

Fifteen jobs have been saved after party shop Fun ‘n’ Frolic won its battle to trade from an industrial estate.

The costume shop, which has traded in the town for more than two decades and was supported by the Evening Post’s Keep Trade Local campaign, faced closure after its original planning application to open in Richfield Avenue was turned down by Reading planners who claimed there were more suitable locations closer to the town centre.

Cities for People, NOT Cars

Cities for People, NOT CarsThe past 50 years has seen the car take over UK streets. Where children once played in the street, today they’ve been driven indoors to their self-contained play zones. There’s no need to interact or get to know one’s neighbours. Community spirit is crumbling. But there’s good news on the horizon… A new wave of street design has been sweeping the continent and looks poised to bring relief to the UK’s overcrowded streets.

Our local ‘built’ environment has the power to affect our moods and behaviour. It will suggest certain values and can promote positive feelings. But for the past 50 years the streets and spaces where we live have primarily been designed to facilitate the movement of cars. This has frequently had a negative impact on local communities and affected the way we live.

Ethical Christmas Gifts

Ethical Christmas GiftsWith 99 days left till Christmas Day 2008 you’d better start getting your thinking hat on in regards to what you are going to buy your loved ones.

Me, I’m tired of seeing 50 presents for each child under the tree, 49 of them being plastic crap that is shipped in from China in a box and then the containers are filled up with yesterday’s festivities and shipped back to China in the form of waste that we have no landfill for... as it’s all used up!

The boxes remaining here as they prove to be the most exciting part of the present and become trains or space ships that are played with long after the plastic toys have been forgotten... about 15 minutes!
