Jons Journal Business in Berkshire

Good morning <Name>
Jon Davey
January had a Charity focus, February has seen us focus in on Innovation, March is about networks and April will see me reviewing a Community Website each day.

We've now got 25 stories in our Innovation Showcase, great work by Hannah to get it moving.

We're looking for more people with drive and enthusiasm who we can help move forward along life's highway.

We are also looking for good sales people. We've created a website with real power and its now time to move up a gear. If you are a sales person looking for something new or know an individual that is, then get them to call.

To brighten up today's news I have included two feeds from NewsBiscuit, a fun daily email that delivers a single current news story with a twist to your mailbox each day. Tell us what you think of these stories by email (biscuits@businessinberkshire.co.uk) and we will put in you the draw for a packet of garibaldis or suggestive digestives!

Enjoy!

The European Commission on Languages has passed a landmark resolution against the lengths of German nouns. From next year it will be against European law for the Germans to string individual words together to create lengthy so-called ‘super-nouns’.

Life on Mars – Innovations from the Past
Life on Mars
This week saw the return of time-travelling detective series ‘Life on Mars’, already becoming a cult classic after just one series. In case you haven’t seen the show, the story revolves around 21st century detective Sam Tyler who, following a serious road accident, falls into a coma and finds himself back in the year 1973.

The first series was shown a year ago and proved massively popular, offering intriguing story lines, strong characterisation, humour, pathos, plus a healthy dose of nostalgia thrown in for good measure. The second series – which will be the last - kicked off this week.

Heart transplant on Valentine's Day romantic, ultimately fatal
Heart transplant on Valentine's Day romantic, ultimately fatal
Doctors treating Barry Wilkins today described the failed heart transplant surgery that took place on Valentine’s Day and resulted in his death as ‘really quite romantic.’

Mr Wilkins, who had a condition known as cardiac hypertrophy, had been waiting for a suitable donor for sixteen months when his girlfriend, Miranda Lewis was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident on Monday. Soon after doctors were delighted to discover that she was a genetic match. ‘She literally gave him her heart,’ said one visibly moved nurse. ‘I wish my boyfriend would do that for me.’

Run Across America for Thames Hospicecare
Run Across America for Thames Hospicecare
In April 2007, Martin Ilott will be embarking on a 3000 mile solo-run from Los Angeles to New York to raise money for Thames Hospicecare. If successful, he believes he will be the first British runner to complete the run across America unaided.

The Run Across America is dedicated to the memory of Martin’s father, himself a keen runner, who sadly died in 2003 after a short battle with cancer. “Dad was a fun-loving and popular figure” says Martin, “who especially enjoyed his morning runs around Central Park and taking part in the NY Marathon”.

Virtual Pets Online with Wi-Fi-Enabled GoPets
Virtual Pets Online with Wi-Fi-Enabled GoPets
Konami is set to release GoPets, a new virtual pet simulator that will allow gamers to create their own online pets. Competitor Nintendogs features a local wireless ‘Bark’ mode that let 2 DS units in proximity connect together. GoPets takes the idea a stage further…

GoPets, claimed as ‘the newest and cutest thing that’s ever hit the Internet’, features cats and dogs which can be taken online to meet, mix, and mingle with other virtual pets from all around the world. Pet owners can communicate with each other either with text or through a series of picture based icons – known as the IKU messaging system (and effectively bypassing any language barriers). An online journal keeps track of all the friends your pet makes as it travels the virtual world.

Save 50% on your Business in Berkshire promotion and help Thames Hospicecare at the same time.

For one off promotions we generally charge £180 + Vat.

I have put myself forward to help Thames Hospicecare with their Sunflower Slimathon and am looking to raise at least £1,000 personally. A few people have stepped forward and donated £20 but I want to speed up the process.

The next 10 businesses that step forward to run an advert can have them at half price. Not only that there will be no VAT to pay!
