When the axe falls opportunity knocks!

When the axe falls opportunity knocks! At the weekend I caught up with a good friend of mine who is about to become redundant … not necessarily her … her job!

Many of us have been there at some point in our working lives and it can be a trying and testing time with lots of questions - How will I cope? What will I do, I've worked there for years? How am I going to get another job? Where do I start? How do I put together a CV?

HOW TO DEAL WITH ASSESSMENT CENTRES

HOW TO DEAL WITH ASSESSMENT CENTRES1. Don't take over. So you're on your hands and knees with a bunch of people you've never met before, building the Taj Mahal out of matchsticks. Don't be over-officious or too bossy. No one likes a bully and that is how you'll come across. Be assertive and wait to see if the team appoints you as its boss...

Good morning <07 Name>

What's it going to be guys? Doom and gloom or are we going to polish our smiles for spring?

I can understand y'all fleeing gloomy with rain 'n snow and there being nowhere to go... I feel a song coming on!

Tesco's are moaning because sales were only up 2% over the Christmas period. Poor old Tesco's! They've noticed a change in the choices people are making apparently we're heading for the value brands.

None of us are going to spend hard cash on stuff unless we really need it.

This means everyone, not just the big boys need to remove all the wool and candy floss, ensuring they highlight the key benefits of any product and service they offer. Keep it Simple Stupid.

With this in mind Business in Berkshire emphasis has switched to "Business Lead Generation". If we summarise what we do then that's it, we drive visitors to your door and introduce them to your world!

What we offer is excellent value for money and you're mad not to join in. £99 + VAT is the price of a night out and who knows who will be led to your door as a direct result of folk searching the web.

Now that would make you smile. Someone out there with a real budget to spend on what you have to offer finds you via the Internet and goes from prospect to top customer in the blink of an eye!

Help yourself to create that positive energy around you by simply saying "Thank you". I've started to add it to emails, rather than "regards", it feels uplifting and we do smile and nod in appreciation when people say thank you for what we've done.

Best thing you can do to help yourself is get out there networking and bump into a few people for the first time... this time next year they or their customers could be your customers! Come and join Mary, Lynne, DKL and myself at Hall Place, BCA, Maidenhead tomorrow afternoon. BOOK NOW.

Prince Harry to replace Russell Brand at BBC

Prince Harry to replace Russell Brand at BBCRumours are rife that Prince Harry is being groomed for a TV and radio career. A BBC insider said, "What with Russell landing a £20,000,000 movie deal and Jonathan Ross heading for early retirement after stashing most of last year's earnings in a guaranteed high interest account with Northern Rock, guaranteed by Her Majesty's government. What are we left with? There are no real radio or TV comedians of their calibre and this footage commissioned by the News of the World back at the turn of the century has made us realise what we are missing. Better still, he's already on the pay role so we just move him between departments!

Driving visitors to your website

Driving visitors to your websiteThe role of online marketing is to drive visitors to your door.

Retailers and service based organisations are looking for different things from their online marketing.

Retailers are looking to sell their wares as they used to from the High Street. They want prospective customers who know what they are looking for to find them via the Internet within the first page of the listings provided by their chosen search engine. Ideally the customer places the order and it is delivered within 24 hours to close the loop! The retailer gets paid and makes a profit.

Swindon mortgages broker on mortgage market

Swindon mortgages broker on mortgage marketSo to get us all up to speed, here is a round-up of what's gone on during the last two weeks.

Lenders continue to be torn between two contradictory government orders; to offer competitive mortgage deals whilst simultaneously raising and stashing plenty of cash for their Capital reserves and repaying government loans. A Bank of England survey of lenders released last week showed that they plan to continue to hold back for the first few months of 2009, as a result of the falling value of property and other assets against which loans are secured. Good news is that the BoE report shows that the increase in net lending (completed) to individuals secured on dwellings (£0.7bn) was more than the increase in October (£0.5bn) which implies that lenders have started giving consumers a little more. However, the review of new business shows that only 27,000 purchase mortgages with a net value of £3.1bn were approved in November (to compare that to the previous year: there was a monthly average of 75,000 purchase approvals with a net value of £8bn at the end months of 2007, and as many as 114,000 per month in mid-2007). Remortgages fell from 72,000 in October to 42,000 in November.

With more and more companies now recognising the environmental and business benefits of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Green-A-Way aims to highlight some of the ways in which organisations can help to minimise their impact on the environment.

Most of us recycle at home, so why doesn't the same happen in the work place?

Could installing a water softener help skin problems?

Could installing a water softener help skin problems?Scientists are currently investigating whether installing a water softener in your home can relieve children's eczema symptoms. Eczema affects up to 20% of children in the UK.

The Department of Health-backed study, which began in 2007 and will run until summer 2009, will also look at the differing effects of hard and soft water on the condition which causes dry and itchy skin.

Eczema has been reported to be more common in hard-water areas but it is not understood why that might be.

Aliens in search of alternative power sources? Ecotricity

Aliens in search of alternative power sources? EcotricityDamage to a Ecotricity wind turbine in Lincolnshire has been attributed to a mystery aircraft.

The turbine at Conisholme lost one 66ft (20m) blade and had another badly damaged in the early hours of Sunday.

Local UFO groups have had teams searching for clues. A spokesman from the local group has mentioned that there has been a lot of UFO activity in the area. Reports have even mentioned a octopus shape aircraft hovering over the turbine.

Ecotricity, which owns the site, are continuing investigations and have said they are not ruling anything out - though the extent of damage was "unique".
