Holiday on the Greek island of Zante

Holiday on the Greek island of ZanteHi, my name is Jon Davey and I run a business website in Berkshire, UK. Some friends of mine in Zakynthos asked if I could write a letter to let you know some of what I have heard locally about holidays abroad this year. It's my privilege to offer the results of my research for your consideration. Thank you for reading.

So as to whether people are going to holiday abroad this year... best ask! I posted the question on a couple of online business forums to get the vibe.

Lorna Noakes, Receptionist

- You're Verbatim's newest member of staff. How long have you worked for the team at Verbatim?

I've been here two months now, although it seems like longer because everybody is so friendly that you can't feel like the new girl for very long! Before I came here, I was working in administration for a specialist dental studio. My job included phone work but it was very different to what we do here, of course.

Social Networking Seminar for Marketing Directors

Social Networking Seminar for Marketing DirectorsWhat are you to do about social networking?
Ask the experts...

• Does your social networking really generate sales?
• Are you indulging yourself when you use social networking sites?
• Is social networking an excuse for not meeting face-to-face?
• Is social networking just for teenagers?

There is a lot of noise around social networks. It all started with a few techie websites, as they were the only people patient enough to use the internet a few years back. LinkedIn used to be so very basic and now look at it!

Fat Duck finally loses weight!

Fat Duck finally loses weight!I have been reading with interest the reports of those falling foul (excuse the pun!) of the concoctions at the Fat Duck in Bray. The restaurant was initially closed at the end of February pending investigations by environmental health officers after complaints that more than 40 people had been struck ill after eating at the establishment. Now Thames Valley Health Protection have said around 400 people had contacted it claiming they had fallen ill and the investigators now want to speak to everyone to establish whether their illness was connected to the Fat Duck. I feel sympathy for those affected, not least because they will have spent a fortune for the privilege!

Good morning <07 Name>

Sometimes you need to give yourself a bit of breathing space and I'm increasingly thinking, this needs to be more than sometimes!

Yesterday I took our BLG Lunch Box to NRG's Marble Arch Group. Graham Jones was keynote speaker and then Dave was going to present our partnership offering to his network while I handed out A4 special features that featured the BLG Lunch Box offer on one side and the stats for week one of the business networking lunches.co.uk website on the other. But more about that later, breathing space...

I arrived in Paddington with 1 hour to spare. Dave had mentioned the hotel was only 15 minutes walk from the station, it was a nice day. It was Tuesday, I had a full folder of double sided A4 Special Features and there was a dog wearing sunglasses. Hit it I thought, obviously inspired by an old movie, not quite black and white and off I strode...

But which way to Marble Arch? If you don't know the way, ask a Policeman! Spotted bloke in brand new luminous jacket, he must work here I thought, he'll know the way. No, turns out he was a bus driver who'd been asked by 2 or 3 people already and wished he'd put on his shiny blazer and been anonymous! Then I found a chap with a FirstGW badge, he must know... a Polish chap, knew how to get to the underground but not sure how to get there over ground. Past a phone shop, money exchange and kebab shop and there was an estate agents, they'll know the way. Down here, turn left; at Edgware Road turn right, Marble Arch. Cool, thank you...

Off I strolled, checked the mobile, and made a couple of calls. At Edgware Road I turned right into what I thought was Turkey but have since been advised was Lebanon. So many shops selling "Turkish delight" and bongs of all shapes and sizes. One shop was 'blinged up' with gold mobile phones surrounded by tiny diamantes. How much mate? That one is £250, that one £350! Nice... Marble Arch, marvellous, not far now... check that out, a 4" skate board, £350... There's a pattern forming. Flat for rent only £350... That's cheap... a week... silly me!

Past the Cumberland, stayed there one night when I was younger, so much younger than today. The old man got a MBE and so we all went to the Palace to collect some bling! Before they started to let the hoi polloi in! And I've got to say I found all the red and gold of the Palace not quite to my taste, a little 70's I thought! (I was a punk at the time!) Made me think of the Sex Pistols. On the 10th March 1977 they signed to A&M Records outside Buckingham Palace and it was Prince Edward's birthday too!

Amazing what goes through your head on the way to a gig... well 2 minute presentation given by someone else while I hand out a few flyers, but it's all rock 'n' roll to me!

Enjoy today's news particularly the story we wrote for a Greek newspaper... amazing what happens when you're bouncing around the web strategically product levitating!!

Thank you for your continued support and next time you're thinking about the web, give us a call and let's see if we can't add a little of our magic to your world.

Top Sales Management course- coming to BerkshireThe Seven Sins of Sales Management Are you committing them?

What are the seven sins?
The 'seven sins' are a set of beliefs that sales leaders/mangers hold but very often fail to recognise themselves. These beliefs influence their attitude, which in turn influences how they manage their sales team, which in turn influence their sales people's performance.

Tune in to Social Networking

Tune in to Social NetworkingThere is a lot of noise around social networks. It all started with a few techie websites, as they were the only people patient enough to use the internet a few years back. LinkedIn used to be so very basic and now look at it! People listen to the noise and this creates activity or panic! What should I be doing? Everyone else is using social networks but I rather talk to people in real time, am I mad? Should I join in? When? How? HELP!

Selling in a Downturn

Selling in a Downturn'Work harder' is good advice for sales people facing a downturn because some will unconsciously use the circumstances as justification for working less. "Beware of leeching thoughts that sap the will" my mentor says. "It's hopeless" is unconsciously interpreted as, "it's ok to do nothing". Some of you will sail through this downturn with hardly a dip. It is usually those who are best prepared who seem to deal with adversity without sweat or stress. Now is the time to draw on the best beliefs, attitudes, and working practices.
