This week I have started on
a campaign to connect with our readers. I have downloaded a list of the 4350
people on my database and plan on calling each and every one!
I'm
allowing 2 hours a day for calling and let's say I make some 30 calls, speak to
5 or 6 decision makers. It is going to take me a couple of years to speak to
everyone! Please be patient.
But we're not patient are we? We want it
all now, in the instant. If I want a cup of tea while in the office and Ali is
sitting opposite, I'll project my need via telepathy and then after two minutes
she'll see me twitching and say "Cup of tea love?" Well, she would say that if
we were up North where men are men and the sheep are nervous, but we're down
South don't ya know so it's more like "Tea?" (you ungrateful northern
btard).
Anyway, while I'm phoning around I would like your feedback on
what we're doing with the newsletters. So don't be shy. And indeed, if you'd
like me to call you sooner rather than later,
click here and I'll bring you up the rankings!
A
couple of things have cropped up:
- www.profileupdate.co.uk - If you enjoy our
newsletters but would rather just get say Monday's news, or just a couple, then
please, Update your
profile here and select your preferred news. There should be a link from
each and every newsletter from now on so please use it to change your profile
as frequently as you like! In slow times you can get it each day and look for
opportunity. In the peaks, just once a week will do the trick.
You choose.
- £180 + Vat per YEAR is the cost of Bronze
membership. If you want us to write an article and turn it into a quality PDF
then it's £180 + Vat each time but then you end up with collateral for
exhibitions and the like. For £180 + Vat per YEAR we will create you your own
website within Business in Berkshire, you add the content 1 - 100+ pages, and
we will publish your news as text listings in the relevant newsletters for
FREE. You only pay extra if you want us to give your story a featured
listing at the top, or if we create a PDF, or produce your own bespoke
newsletter, or do other stuff for you.
That's enough from me this week
if you can
help Alexander's Trust please do and enjoy our other news
below...
Alexander Devine Childrens
Cancer Trust
We have a particularly important request to put out today on
behalf of Alexander Devine Childrens Cancer Trust. This charity was set
up in memory of an amazing little boy, who tragically lost his four year battle
in early 2006 against cancer, at the tender age of just eight years.
The
trusts long term aim is to provide much needed specialized palliative
care and equipment within East Berkshire, with an ultimate goal of a
childrens hospice local to the Windsor area.

Marketing for Men
Hannah sent me this yesterday. She
thought it was funny. I found it patronising and demeaning but it was
International Women's Day so I let it go!

To be clear enough he is using the following samples. Maybe
these analogies will make clearer what the main ideas of marketing

Charities admit
huge cardboard cheques are a pain to pay in
Charities admit huge cardboard cheques are
a pain to pay in
British charities have come together this week
to request that donors cease the popular practise of presenting them with
cheques that are far larger than is practical for accounting and banking
purposes.
The plea came in the run-up to Comic Relief when a whole wave
of six foot by three foot cardboard cheques are expected to be presented in
front of press and TV cameras. These things are just a nightmare to pay
in at the bank explained Richard Curtis. They dont fit under
the little window, you try bending them and that doesnt work. Everyone
behind you starts tutting so you end up carrying them sideways out of the bank
again, hoping you might be able to post them. Then you queue for ages at the
Post Office only to be told they are too big for the Royal Mail.

100 days - Carrying a woman over a
river
 by Fiona Robyn
I was right in the middle of my
meditation this week when my partner's scooter broke down and he interrupted me
by shouting up the stairs to let me know.
We had a brief conversation
and then I was free to go back to my meditation. As I settled back down I
noticed my feelings (annoyance, feeling unsettled) and thoughts ('I won't get
back into it now', 'this always happens', 'why can't I be undisturbed for 20
minutes a day grrrr!').
I suddenly remembered the story about the two
buddhist monks who'd stopped to carry a woman over a river.

Beer Drinkers vs Wine Drinkers Do you prefer the
grape to the grain? According to a recent study published in a medical journal
this week, your preference for wine or beer could indicate a lot more about
your personality and lifestyle than youd imagine.
Games Developers Profitability Fears As games
become more complex and sophisticated, rising development costs mean many new
titles wont see a profit until 2008 according to a recent report. Large
development teams add to the cost of bringing the games to market which in turn
affects profitability.

Planes, cranes and automobiles in the Peruvian
Amazon A good friend of mine, Chris Kirkby, will be giving a talk at
RISC on 18 March about the impact of the Trans-Amazon Highway. The final
stretch of the road, through the Peruvian state of Madre de Dios, is shortly
due to be paved. Worryingly it passes close to two incredible biodiversity
hotspots the Tambopata National Reserve and Manu National Park.
