Good
morning <Name>
Just done some analysis on the Sunflower Slimathon. Over 130
people have taken a look at our Slimathon project via our newsletter, 8 have
found the space through searching key phrases (space only launched in Jan).
So far we have raised £260, my target is £1000.
That
said, I was speaking to the Steve Arundale, a director with NatWest, and as a
direct result of our efforts he has made contact with Thames Hospicecare and
committed to raise funds during 2007.
Now that's what I want to hear.
People motivated into action by seeing what others are doing. Obviously we'll
be covering this as a story in a few weeks, in the meantime, tell us your great
charity stories. Maybe you've climbed Everest and raised £1.7b for
Vertigo Research, or taken part in an egg and spoon race and raised 25p for the
school, but what a laugh!
Also, it's Valentine's Day on
Wednesday, sort it now before the last minute rush!! Are there any hotels,
restaurants, theatres out there that would like us to push their Valentine
offering? If so,
make a
donation to our Sunflower Slimathon of £90 and we'll push your event
/ venue to our readers next week.
Enjoy!

Lunch &
Learn, Corporate Healthy Living Program
Karen Harmsworth, The Life Doctor, has a new
innovative offering A Healthy Living Program tailored for the corporate
environment to help employees with busy lives lead them in the healthiest
possible way.
On Monday 5th February 2007 the Financial Times reported:
Fatter workers 'hitting the bottom line': As work has become more
sedentary, the global labour force has become fatter, sicker and less
productive. The trend is hitting "the bottom lines of the world's largest
companies", according to a survey of multinationals

Speech Recognition the Next PC
Innovation
The freshly-launched Windows Vista has the
ability to read users emails in order to to familiarise itself with their
commonly-used vocabulary a facility that will ultimately allow users to
talk to their computers more easily. This speech recognition
feature is being hailed as the beginning of new breakthrough in the computer
industry.
Speech-controlled devices have hitherto been confined to the
world of science-fiction, but the Vista feature brings the technology a step
closer to the user. Microsoft executive Jim Allchin is quoted as saying
You can dictate a letter to Vista, but it is not like the Vista really
understands what youre saying. That will be the next revolutionary
step. Machines that can actually understand human speech will represent
the industrys next big innovation.

Company Car Drivers Waste 11 Days a
Year
A recent survey by the RAC Foundation in conjunction with
www.companycardriver.co.uk threw up a disturbing statistic: 20% of company car
drivers waste more than 11 days every year stuck in traffic jams.
The
survey, which found most drivers wasting between one or two hours each week
stuck in congestion, concluded that 40% of company car drivers would welcome
more opportunities to work from home whilst 25% longed for more flexible
working hours to help them avoid the busiest rush hour periods on the roads.

Consumers Rate No-Frills
Approach
According to a recent survey of Which? Members, no-frills
value-for-money food stores Aldi and Lidl beat the big 4
supermarket chains hands-down when it comes to customer satisfaction.
Although John Lewis and Waitrose topped the poll as Britains favourite
high-street shops, low-price supermarket chains Aldi and Lidl are clearly
gaining in popularity, trouncing their nearest rivals. Aldi scored an overall
satisfaction rating of 66, with Lidl following close behind at 64. In
comparison, their main competitors trailed behind at 61 (Sainsburys), 58 (Tesco
and Asda), and 56 (Morrisons).

Is Britain a Nation of
Hoarders?
 According to recent research by
furniture maker Hammonds, 95% of respondents admitted they held on to clutter
and unwanted items long after they have outlived their usefulness. Crammed into
the attic, the spare room , the wardrobe, or under the bed, it seems the
average Briton accumulates more than a TON of unwanted items.
Are you a
hoarder? Do you hate to throw anything away just in case it might
come in handy one day? Do you have a drawer full of rubber bands and
paperclips? What about old clothes do you hang onto them long after
theyve faded from the fashion radar? Or are you just hoping youll
be able to squeeze back into those smaller sizes someday?

Rics calls for new rural
homes
 The British countryside is in
danger of becoming a property "playground for the rich", the Royal Institution
of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) has claimed.
The organisation believes
that, unless steps are taken to tackle the shortage of affordable housing in
rural locations, local people will be unable to afford houses in their own
area.
Figures show that 105,000 people moved to the countryside in
2005, representing a 25 per cent increase over the previous five years, and
Rics' head of public policy Brian Berry has called for more affordable housing
to be built to accommodate local first-time buyers.

An Unusual
Valentines Day Gift Healthy too
The most common Valentines Day gift of assorted
chocolates is no longer acceptable for many people, and their sweeties are
obliging them by giving them a heart-healthy alternative gift of a handcrafted
heart-shaped green tea, instead.
Chinas Secret Teas is promoting
their unique hand-molded heart-shaped green tea as a new, healthier alternative
to the traditional Valentines Day chocolate gifts. Hazel Tan explains,
On Valentines Day in the past, your safest bet was to give a box of
chocolates as a gift. Not any more. Now a lot of people wont eat the
chocolate you give them because theyre on a diet, or theyre
watching their weight, or they have diabetes. Fortunately, green tea makes a
great replacement for chocolate.
