Good
morning <Name>
It's Friday and time for Jon's Journal. A little more light
hearted than other editions of our newsletter with fun stories.
Some
will have a business focus but the essence is to wind down for the weekend.
Saying that, I want to remind you that Hannah is looking for innovative ideas
to report on this month, so call her on 01189 661178 and tell her your
story!
Kids in Berkshire is coming back to life as the mornings start to
warm up a little. Ngaire has put together a two page, what's on summary for
February.
Download, print off and use it. If you know of stuff going
on for the kids then let us know and we'll add them to future
calendars.
I mentioned last week that
Berkshire Life is looking for business stories. Contact
Tessa and get in a quality magazine that is paid for by 10,000 people with real
disposable income!
Don't forget to take advantage of our Sunflower Slimathon
offer.
Then, I guess because I've been eating a little less, the
food stories have been gravitating towards me!
Enjoy!

2007 - The Year
of Web 2.0
 What does the label Web
2.0 actually mean? Theres certainly some disagreement about the
terminology but in general youll find it used as a catch-all term which
applies to the transition to the 2nd stage of internet
development.
Although many feel Web 2.0 is nothing more than
a meaningless marketing term, it seems to have been adopted by as an
appropriate term to describe the new internet methodology.
According to Wikipedia: Web 2.0 is a term often applied to a
perceived ongoing transition of the World Wide Web from a collection of
websites to a full-fledged computing platform serving web applications to end
users. Ultimately Web 2.0 services are expected to replace desktop computing
applications for many purposes. 2007 - The Year of Web 2.0

Historic Coaching
Inn with a Modern Touch
The Ostrich in Colnbrook is the third oldest Inn in the UK,
dating from 1106. With over 900 years of hospitality history, The Ostrich
combines everything you would expect of an historic coaching inn: oak beams,
fireplaces, crooked stairs, a cobbled courtyard, and of course a fascinating
history.
The Ostrich is owned by Cross Oak Inns who undertook a major
refurbishment last year, retaining original features and enhancing the
décor using earthy tones and natural materials. The Inn re-opened last
September, a stylish and relaxed venue where customers enjoy freshly cooked
food and drinks in comfortable surroundings.
The honest, tasty food is
prepared by Chef Chris Perkins using fresh local ingredients where possible.
Chris was previously pastry chef at the Michelin-starred The Star
gastro pub in Yorkshire, so as you can imagine his dessert menu is not to be
missed! Historic Coaching Inn with a Modern

A taste of success for Berkshire
business
Berkshire restaurant The Vineyard has become one
of the fourteen eateries in the UK to be awarded more than one Michelin
star.
The Michelin guide explains that having two stars means the
restaurant offers excellent cooking which is worth a detour.
Since
gaining their first Michelin star back in 2000, the chefs at the Stockcroft
Vineyard have been working hard to create an individual, artistic touch in
their menus.

Audiovisual industry embraces
video-on-demand
Video-on-demand (VOD) is starting to gain in popularity
across Europe and should develop further over the next 12 months, industry
members believe.
Around 150 VOD platforms now exist in 26 European
countries, according to Paris-based audiovisual consultancy NPA Conseil, with
the UK representing one of the major users with over 20 platforms.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, French director Jean-Jacques Beineix said
at a recent industry forum: "Video-on-demand is a bit like the Loch Ness

Reading Pickling Contest Won by
Star's Mum
While the Winslet family waits on tenterhooks to discover
whether Kate will win a golden trophy at the Oscars this year, they have taken
some time to celebrate another glowing accolade.
Mrs Sally Winslet,
Kate's mother, has proved she has plenty of talent in her own right, as she was
dubbed queen pickler at the Doves Exiles Onion Pickling Contest in Reading this
month.
Eight other contestants pitted themselves against Mrs Winslet as
she presented her family recipe onions to the panel of expert judges, according
to the Reading Evening Post. Reading Pickling Contest Won by Star's

Tesco Goes Green
In a bid to contribute to a
low-carbon economy, supermarket giant Tesco have announced plans to introduce a
carbon footprint labelling system to help shoppers compare which
products require the least energy to produce. They also aim to reduce prices of
certain energy-efficient items.
Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy
unveiled the plan earlier this week, along with a pledge to reduce emissions
from existing stores by at least 50% by 2020. Much of the concern over
emissions revolves around transportation, so Tescos aim to restrict products
requiring air transportation to less than 1%, placing aeroplane symbols on all
goods imported by air. Tesco Goes Green
Resolutions for
Business
As February begins, many of us will
be reflecting on the resolutions we made at the start of the year. Have we
stuck to them? Or did they get left behind sometime in the second week of the
new year? For many of us, our resolutions will focus on personal goals such as
losing weight or getting fit but what about your business goals for the year
ahead? This article looks at the resolutions you can make to help take your
business to the next level.
The new year celebrations are behind us,
Christmas is just a distant memory, and weve still got at least a month
of winter left. This makes February the perfect time to review your business
plans for the rest of the year. Consider 2006 what worked well and what
didnt? Your past successes and failures can act as your guide as you plan
for 2007. Resolutions for Business
